Whether travelling north or south using this route, leave the M74 motorway at Junction 15 and follow the A701 to the town and if travelling from further south, the M6 from Birmingham & Manchester meets the M74 just north of Carlisle.

Travelling from Edinburgh via the A701 passes through the infamous Devil's Beeftub offering spectacular views of this historical covenanting site.
