SUCCESS at Prestigious SLTN Awards!... We've done it!

On Thursday the 25th of October the most prestigious Awards in the industry were held at a glittering Hilton in Glasgow.

The Buccleuch was among the finalists of the coveted Wine Award and arrived at the event with baited breath.

To our delight, "WE WON!"

We are absolutely overjoyed at winning this award as we have, along with our suppliers Waverley TBS, been working hard towards this moment for a number of years. This follows on from being among the finalists in 2006.

The award encompasses a number of aspects. A holistic approach to wine ranging from style, training, enthusiasm, knowledge as well as the menus themselves.

We are very proud of what we have achieved and our sincere thanks must go out to our many guests who guided us and our suppliers who supported us.

We now leave it up to you to come along and enjoy our wine offering...

Staff Trip to Italy

Early on a wet Scottish morning our Front Line Staff were whisked away to Italy to stay at Castello di Gabbiano in Tuscany near Florence to experience wine from the vineyard to the cellar.

The team set off with Marna Farrell from Waverley TBS and Sarah Mauritzen from Wolf Blass Wines, both of whom were instrumental in assisting our Team and the Buccleuch to become a top wine venue. Fosters EMEA Limited look after the Wolf Blass Group of Wines in the UK and played a major role in ensuring the wine learning journey happened.
Sarah Mauritzen said “This was in recognition to the Buccleuch and their staff for being so passionate about quality food and great wine.”

A great time was had by all portrayed by the great big smiles that returned.

A member of staff commented “It is with experiences such as this, lots of training and the fact that we have great wines on our menu that we are so passionate about wines and food. It was a great experience.”

The Buccleuch Arms Hotel is once again a finalist in this years Scottish Licensed Trade Wine Awards where the winners will be announced on October, 25th at a glittering event at the Hilton in Glasgow.
Fingers crossed...

MRFC Fund Raiser Success

PRESS RELEASE:
"All for a good cause and great party the Buccleuch Arms Hotel in Moffat became the focal point for a St. Patrick’s Day Bash, the balding of many a lively rugby player head and the riddance of unwanted and wanted body hair.

With over £2,000.00 raised to be shared between the Moffat Rams Rugby Club and the Guide Dogs for the Blind the Moffat Rugby Players and one or two staunch supporters went out and raised individual sponsorship for the event which was a roaring success and a great time was had by all.

Jamie McDowell, the Captain of the team, said that this was a player’s initiative where they wanted to do something for the community and something for the club that has brought them all great pleasure.

He thanked House of Beauty and Shonagh’s Hair Salon (Both from Moffat) for volunteering their services and professionalism for the cause.

Beverages well associated with St. Patrick’s Day flowed freely adding to the camaraderie of the occasion."

A Big 'Thank You' to the Staff

Having leased the hotel for three years with many successes and triumphs the Smith family are now proud owners of the Buccleuch Arms Hotel.

To celebrate this moment, on the 7th of March, the staff were treated to a day out at the Metro Centre in Newcastle. Much fun was had and we soon realised bowling was as much a skill than a talent, some spent more time rolling around on the floor. From the picture one can certainly tell who the hotel 'Thugs' are (Front Row).

Voted and Judged “Best Place to Eat in Dumfries and Galloway”

On Thursday the 9th of November the Buccleuch was privileged to be given the biggest honour any restaurant can ask for. Threave Gardens set a stunning venue for the Savour the Flavours Food Awards 2006.

When the presentation ceremony started fingers were crossed and hopes were high as Nick Nairn started handing out the awards. It came to our categories and it was great to hear the Buccleuch achieve Gold (first place) for the “Best Starter”. The success continued as we were commended on two of our mains dishes and then to our delight as our name was called out again for “Best Dessert”, attaining Gold. These achievements are a fantastic result for Lara who has worked so hard to get this recognition.

Everyone waited with bated breath as they announced the category for Best Place to Eat in Dumfries and Galloway. This award is judged in accumulation of firstly, votes from the public, then by anonymous visits by the judges and lastly by the judging panel. The Buccleuch did it again!

To be judged under such scrutiny and to be chosen as Best Place to Eat in D&G really is a fantastic achievement for the Buccleuch and is testament to all the hard work the team have put in and the procurement policies put in place by the hotel guaranteeing quality of product.

In announcing the winner Graham Hume said of the Buccleuch,
“…stashed with traditional local specialities, packed with helpful menus and spiked with stylish inventions, and, most importantly, superbly welcomed by cheerful and well informed waiting staff.”

World Porridge Champion 2006 - In the Finals Again

I'm sure many of you have had the privilege of sampling Lara's Bucc'n'dulge porridge. This was the very delight that won her the grand title of World porridge champion in 2005. If not, the name holds the secret, come and indulge.

This year Lara made the trek up north again and served up a different lip licking, belly filling recipe. Unfortunately she was pipped in the finals to a deserving Addy Daggert in the specialty section. Sgt Coleen Hayward MacLeod walked away with Golden Spurtle plain porridge title.

The worldwide competition was tough but this is not holding Lara back from already forming ideas for next year.
But congradulations to Lara for a fine effort, best of luck next year!

Moffat Rugby Football Club Sponsors

At the beginning of 2005 the Buccleuch proudly took over main sponsorship of The Moffat Rugby Football Club. At the moment the Club is currently fielded in West League Division 2. Acting as a club house for the team and having a number of staff actually playing for the side, we at the Buccleuch watch their progress with enthusiasm.

The Clubs website is very well designed, user friendly and updated regularly, so if you want to catch up on results, see upcoming fixtures or just have an interesting browse we have provided a direct link to the results page on the website.
